Ray A. Good Jr., 91, of River Forest, died on Nov. 28, 2011 in his home. Born in Chicago to Ray and Lillian Good, he attended Irving School in Oak Park and graduated from Oak Park and River Forest High School and the University of Illinois-Champaign, where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in England, where he served as a hospital lab technician.
After the war he took on the management of a trade association, now known as the International Reprographic Association, working there until his retirement at age 65. He had many interests, including photography, model trains, printing, and wine making. He loved music and played guitar in bands from high school through his army days. He was an avid reader and a Chicago sport fan.
In retirement he became interested in pastels, stained glass and returned to playing guitar and keyboard. He volunteered at the township office, assisting other seniors with tax and Medicare issues.
Mr. Good married his wife, Winifred, in 1943 and had their reception at the Oak Park Arms Hotel. They had been married 63 years when she died in 2006.
Ray Good Jr. was the father of Ray III (Jackie), Mike, Pat (the late Vern) Mitchell, Carol, John, Bob (Lori), and Peter (Joan McDermott); the grandfather of Tim, Dan (Kelly), Amanda, and Kevin; the great-grandfather of Colin and Amelia; the brother of Fred (Dorothy Wood); and the uncle and friend of many. A memorial service was held at Drechsler Brown & Williams Funeral Home in Oak Park on Dec. 2, followed by a military honor guard ceremony and interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
