947 S. Ridgeland Ave.

West Town Refrigeration, a fixture at the southwest corner of Ridgeland and Garfield since 1961, quietly vacated Oak Park recently.

The signature red sign at 947 S. Ridgeland Ave. has been removed, and the space emptied. West Town — which services everything from air conditioning to boilers — is owned by Glenview-based Reedy Industries. A receptionist who answered the phone there said, “with the economy the way it is,” they were consolidating branches of West Town.

Follow-up calls to Thomas Reedy, the head of the family-owned company, were not returned. According to county property records, the one-story commercial property is also owned by Reedy Industries.
