A host by any other name …

A 17-year-old boy who held an underage drinking party last week turned himself into police, Nov. 4, and was charged with obstructing identification after he gave a false name to an officer in connection with the incident.

Police are still investigating the party that occurred in the 600 block of Kenilworth Ave., Oct. 29, where beer was provided to minors. The 17-year-old was also charged with hindering police and alcohol delivery, which are local ordinance citations.

Police said the boy was one of two interviewed when another 17-year-old Oak Park boy was found with a head injury after he had fallen off a moving car the same night around 11:30 p.m.

The driver of the car told police he was surrounded by about 15 other juveniles that were banging on his vehicle and shaking it. He tried to remove himself from the situation by driving away and the victim fell off. The driver was charged with reckless conduct.

Theft/burglary

An unknown offender removed eight wool winter hats from the shelf of a store in the 100 block of North Marion St. on Nov. 5. Loss is estimated at $240.

A patient at West Suburban Hospital had her bag stolen from underneath her hospital bed by an unknown person, Nov. 2-3. Estimated loss is $100 in cash.

Someone removed the catalytic converter from an orange Honda Element in the 600 block of Chicago Avenue, Nov. 3, using a cutting device. Estimated loss is $500.

An unknown person removed the catalytic converter from a black Honda Element in the 500 block of Harrison Street, Oct. 31-Nov. 1. Estimated loss is $979.

Someone removed a stainless steel Ruger 2-inch barrel revolver from a case in the closet of a bedroom in the 1300 block of Harlem Ave., Sept. 11-Oct. 30. The victim did not have a serial number. Estimated loss is $350.

An offender removed a secured black Specialized 24-inch, 21-speed men’s mountain bicycle from a bike rack in the 1100 block of Lake St., Nov. 6. Estimated loss is $565.

An unknown person gained entry to a garage in the 1000 block of South Cuyler Ave., Nov. 5-6, and removed a car stereo from a black 2002 Saturn SL2. The offender also broke the passenger-door window of a blue 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis. Estimated loss is $200.

An assistant manager at Dominick’s in the 7500 block of North Ave. reported a man went into the back warehouse, Nov. 4, and took a box of Effen vodka. The man went into the bathroom and came out with six bottles in a backpack. Estimated loss is $176.

Theft arrest

A 17-year-old student at Oak Park and River Forest High School was arrested at the school Nov. 3 for stealing an iPod and $10, Oct. 26.

An Oak Park boy turned himself into police, Nov. 4, and was charged with theft for stealing an iPhone from a girl’s desk at Oak Park and River Forest High School, Oct. 31. He was processed and turned over to a parent.

Three Chicago juveniles were arrested, Oct. 31, for robbery and mob action after they removed the cellphone of an Oak Park juvenile.

Two Berwyn boys were arrested for robbery, Nov. 3, after they took a cellphone from another Berwyn boy in Oak Park. The 16-year-old victim had been on a bus with three others before he got off at Chicago Avenue and walked west toward Harlem Avenue. The offenders followed him off the bus, walked up behind him and punched him in the head, police said. They pulled him to the ground and took his phone from his jacket pocket. Police are still looking for the third offender.

Damage to property

An unknown offender used a BB projectile to break the rear window of a red 1992 Buick in the 1200 block of North Austin Blvd., Nov. 5. Estimated damage is $300.

Someone gained entry to a garage in the 900 block of Gunderson Ave., Nov. 6, possibly breaking a panel to the rear door. Damage is estimated at $500.

Residential burglary

An unknown person gained entry to a residence in the first block of Iowa Street, Nov. 5-6, and removed a Dell computer, two flat-screen televisions, two game systems, a diamond ring and 24-inch chrome vehicle rims. Estimated loss is $13,050.

Attempted robbery

Four offenders approached a 29-year-old man in the 700 block of Maple Ave., Oct. 31, and demanded he give them all he had before punching him in the face. One offender displayed a chrome revolver. The victim fled the scene and there was no loss.

Two Oak Park teens were approached from behind in the 200 block of North Ridgeland Ave. by 15-20 men, Oct. 31. One offender hit one of the victims in the face with an egg before others surrounded the victims and punched and kicked them. They attempted to remove the victims’ cellphones.

Two offenders approached a victim from behind and demanded money, Nov. 2, in the first block of West Randolph Street. The offenders then began to strike the victim on the head numerous times with closed fists. The victim fell to the ground and yelled and the offenders fled on foot eastbound from the scene.

Motor vehicle theft

An unknown person removed a beige 1999 Lincoln Town Car parked in the 300 block of South Taylor Ave., Nov. 2-3. Estimated loss is $4,000.

Driving under the influence

A 42-year-old River Grove man was arrested for driving under the influence, Nov. 4, after he was stopped for disobeying a traffic control device in the 600 block of Jackson Boulevard. The man smelled strongly of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes. He was released on bond.

These items were obtained from the Oak Park and River Forest police departments, Oct. 31-Nov. 7, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged and cases have not yet been adjudicated.
