This “view” is fatally flawed [Think before promoting alcohol, Viewpoints, Oct. 5]. The only argument is the widely discredited “gateway drug” idea (see wikipedia.org/wiki/Gateway_drug_theory#Rat_studies). By this logic, we should not serve milk to our children since virtually every addict drank milk as a child. This topic merits serious discussion. Wednesday Journal’s publishing of such nonsensical “opinions” is harmful in that it avoids such discussion.

P.S. Regarding the silly assertion regarding northern vs. southern Europe, only differences in consumption, not addiction have been observed, to the best of my knowledge.
