I’ve always admired people who can capture my attention with a good story, whether it’s through the written word or illustrations. Imagine being able to do both!

On Tuesday, October 4th at 7 p.m., Magic Tree Bookstore has the honor of welcoming a uniquely gifted artist, Brian Selznick, winner of the 2008 Caldecott Medal and author of The Incredible Hugo Cabret and his new release, Wonderstruck.

“Expanding upon the genre-breaking form he invented in his trailblazing debut novel, The Incredible Hugo Cabret, Mr. Selznick’s latest book, Wonderstruck, weaves together two stories set fifty years apart.” The story of Ben, which takes place in 1977, is told entirely in words, while Rose’s story, set in 1927, is communicated solely in pictures. Both characters share something in common: one was born deaf and the other loses his hearing when struck by lightning.

You won’t want to miss this amazing opportunity to meet Brian Selznick and experience his enthusiasm, creativity, and passion for children’s literature. In his own words, Mr. Selznick says, “I write about things that I love. In Wonderstruck I write about museums, deaf culture, I write about New York in 1927 and 1977. I did as much research as I possibly could on all of those things. I learned so much and I loved so much of what it was I discovered.”

Tickets are required to see Brian Selznick in person at the Arts Center of Oak Park, 200 N. Oak Park Avenue by purchasing either The Incredible Hugo Cabret or Wonderstruck at The Magic Tree Bookstore (your purchase will admit two). Reserve your book and tickets by contacting 708.848.0770 or stopping by The Magic Tree Bookstore at 141 N Oak Park Ave.

Bring your family for an educational, inspiring evening as Brian Selznick discusses his new release, Wonderstruck, with the help of a signer.
