2011 graduate of Oak Park River Forest High School, Pierce McClanahan is embarking on an unusual summer activity. McClanahan is one of the youngest members of the Cavaliers; Rosemont based drum and bugle corps and member of the “marching music major league”, Drum Corps International.
Currently ranked number one in the corps, the Cavaliers began tirelessly training in May, and “will travel about 12,000 miles this summer in a caravan of 5 buses, 3 semis and multiple smaller trucks,” according to McClanahan’s mother Beth Smoots.
McClanahan was previously a member of another Drum Corps International team last summer, the Cadets of Allentown, Pennsylvania. “Pierce was one of only three high school students out of 150 in that corps,” explained Smoots.
The Cavaliers will be performing in Rockford this Sunday, June 18 and it is their last local show.
