Last week’s wet weather and frigid temps may have forced the cancellations of several athletic events in and around Oak Park, but the sport of soccer usually holds to the U.S. Postal Service creed of, “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night … “

The OPRF soccer team played through the nasty weather last week, picking up two West Suburban (Silver) Conference victories. The Huskies shutout Downers Grove North 2-0 on Thursday. Sarah McCall and Emily Gullo scored on assists by Shelby Cozette.

In a 2-1 victory over Hinsdale Central earlier last week, Gullo scored OPRF’s game winner in overtime off a corner kick from McCall. Kate McCole scored the Huskies’ first goal.

The victories pushed OPRF’s record to 8-3-1 overall and 2-1 in the West Suburban (Silver) Conference. The Huskies don’t host a game again until May 12 when they welcome cross-town rival Fenwick.
