OPRF girls water polo

Kimmy Stefanik scored four goals and pocketed five steals to lead the Huskies to a 12-4 win over Hinsdale South last week. OPRF also received three goals from Jessie Conti and two each from Abby Vogt and Alison Coogan.

Sophomore goalkeeper Zoe Erickson finished with nine saves for the Huskies (7-7).

Fenwick soccer

Fenwick opened the Pepsi Showdown with a 1-0 win over Lincoln Way North. The Friars (5-4-1) fell to Glenbrook South 2-0 in the second round.

Fenwick boys water polo

Dan Newell netted nine goals to lead the Friars to a 12-4 win over Mt. Carmel last week. The victory pushed Fenwick’s record to 11-0.

Fenwick volleyball

The Friars battled St. Laurence to a 25-11, 22-25, 25-20 victory last week. Billy Ryan led Fenwick with six kills, while Jeremy Gruszka added five kills and Michael Brosnan dished out 13 assists.

Fenwick also defeated Northtown last week 25-12, 22-25, 25-17. Joe Kelly had five kills in that win.

Fenwick baseball

The Fenwick baseball team upped its record to 5-4 by taking out Ridgewood 4-1 on Saturday.

Senior Jack McGann earned the win, allowing the one run on four hits. He walked one and struck out six. In relief, Jon Buchta struck out four of the six batters he faced.

The Friars had eight hits on the day, including RBI singles by Ryan Fitzgerald, Cody Upp and Joe Patzelt.

On Thursday, the Friars lost to Maine South 3-2. Pitcher Tyler Sewall scattered five hits, while fanning seven.

The Friars have been without third baseman Quinn Collins, who is suffering from an illness. Head coach Dave Hogan said he hopes to have this starter back by the end of the week.

Fenwick hosts Brother Rice on Thursday and travels to Providence on Saturday.
