Last Thursday’s Girls Night Out was a resounding success, and Downtown Oak Park’s Fashion Month continues!

There are more style-infused events planned: a local fashion show, free fashion advice from Oak Park’s experts, an eco-friendly way to help spruce up your wardrobe, and an opportunity to contribute to a charity seeking to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women.

Here are the details for this week’s events:

Tuesday, April 12

Model Citizens Fashion Show, Oak Park Arms Ballroom

11:30am-2pm – $30 per person

See prominent area “model citizens” dressed in the latest fashions from local shops and designers, and enjoy a delicious lunch catered by Maya del Sol and Sugar Fixé. Proceeds will benefit the Oak Park-River Forest Chamber of Commerce, a leadership and educational organization that promotes businesses and business interests in the Oak Park and River Forest area.

To purchase tickets visit www.downtownoakpark.net or call 708.848.8151 to reserve a seat.

Saturday, April 16

Wardrobe Upcycle

10am–5pm – FREE

Daunted by a dismal closet of clothes? Join us for our Wardrobe Upcycle Party where you can purge, organize and update your wardrobe — all while helping the community. Voilá — better you, better closet, better community! Check out these activities:

  • Refresh Your Look — Have a favorite article of clothing that needs some new energy? Bring in up to two favorite articles of clothing — and our design consultants at TAKARA, Muse, or Croix will suggest ways to refresh their look with coordinating items and a few choice accessories.
  • Embellish It — Sign up for the workshop at Sugarcup Trading where our youngest fashionistas can bedazzle their favorite jeans with wink and a sparkle, creating a whole new look.
  • Share the Success — The first 100 people to come to our tent on Marion Street will receive a $5 Downtown Oak Park gift certificate for donating professional quality apparel to Dress for Success, a worthy organization helping to empower (and dress) women for success. Also support Shoes for Souls by donating unwanted shoes at The Competitive Foot and children’s shoes at Sugarcup Trading.
  • Closet Makeover — Who couldn’t use a closet makeover? Get some closet tips and tricks from the professional organizers at Within Your Reach, who will be set up in a tent on Westgate at Marion with storage examples and ideas. Give us your email and be entered into a raffle for a $500 gift certificate towards a storage solution at Within Your Reach.

I hope to see you all there!
