Park District Board of Oak Park incumbent Jessica Bullock won reelection to a second term on the board Tuesday night, and newcomers Paul Aeschleman and Victor Guarino also came out winners. The trio came out on top from the beginning of the night and held onto the lead as votes flooded in throughout the evening.
Though the trio did not run as a slate, their platforms included similar priorities for the park district, and they shared the green campaign signs visible around town. The three candidates gathered to watch results come in at Guarino’s home and celebrated their victory together.
Guarino said he was delighted with the number of people who came forward to help him in the election. “It’s a very humbling thing to run for office,” he said. “I’m very happy, very thankful for all the support.”
Guarino added that he’s happy with the turnout, calling Bullock and Aeschleman “quality people” who have a lot to offer to the park district board. Bullock said she’s happy to have retained her seat.
“I’m excited that we’ve gotten a positive response and I’m looking forward to serving for the next four years,” she said, adding that she looks forward to working with her fellow winners, and admires their past work on various commissions.
Aeschleman said he’s thankful for the support shown by the community, and is eager to move forward on issues before the park district board. As for working with his fellow winners throughout the election, Aeschleman hopes that the same level of cooperation continues on the board.
“It’s great to…have the community select us as stewards of their parks,” he said.
