Debate Team Facilitators for Race to Nowhere: Ben Weiss, Will Hardwicke and Nathan Rothenbaum.

Recently, I read an article discussing the life of a 17-year-old competitive swimmer who starts her day at 5 a.m. Her day is comprised of swimming, going to school, doing homework, weight lifting, running, volunteer work, and more swimming.  Bedtime is 10:30 p.m. Next morning, she gets up and does it all over again.

Does this sound like your child?  Do you know someone with a child scheduled from morning to night, feeling stressed-out, overwhelmed, pushed to the brink? What do you think about kids today competing in this “out-of-control culture of achievement”?  Do our kids arrive at college and/or work inspired and prepared?

On Wednesday, March 9th starting at 7 pm at Oak Park River Forest HIgh School, 201 N Scoville Ave, Oak Park  – The OPRF High School Debate Team is sponsoring “Race To Nowhere,” a film documenting the high stakes, high pressure lives our children are leading.

Following the movie, audience participants can engage in an open dialogue, guided by the OPRFHS Debate Team, to hear and express feelings and perspectives regarding this thought-provoking movie.  Take this wonderful opportunity to hear your teen’s voice and learn more about his/her life.

This is a major fundraiser for our nationally recognized OPRFHS Debate Team. so come out and support this worthy organization AND bring your teen, family and neighbors to connect.  Tickets can be purchased at the door or online at: http://www.racetonowhere.com/screenings/oak-park-river-forest-high-school.

Have you attended a screening of “Race to Nowhere”?  Would you recommend parents, teens, community members attend?  Share your comments about this documentary!
