Brooks Middle School was the winner in the 6th Annual Vex Robotics competition between Oak Park’s two middle schools. The event is sponsored each year by the Oak Park Education Foundation. This year’s competition took place at Julian Middle School, 416 S. Ridgeland.

According to a play-by-play wrap-up from the foundation, “The Julian Middle School gym was packed with cheering friends, fans, parents and siblings. Julian took the lead early on; then Brooks pulled from behind to win.”

The middle-schoolers design and build their own remote-controlled robots for several weeks prior to the Feb. 5 competition. Six teams from each school will advance to a regional competition in Batavia on Saturday, Feb. 12.

The Oak Park Education Foundation is a privately funded nonprofit organization that brings engineers, artists, architects and scientists to work with students at every District 97 school. For more information, visit the Oak Park Education Foundation’s website: www.opef.org.
