Marché Smith put up a single-game record 45 points in Concordia University Chicago’s 79-68 overtime victory against Concordia Wisconsin last weekend.

The 5-foot-7 senior guard, who hails from Oak Park and graduated from Trinity High School in River Forest, scored 15 of her team’s 17 points in the extra period to help the Cougars finish third at the 60th Annual Concordia Invitational Tournament in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Smith connected on 15-of-22 shots from the field and 13-of-16 at the free-throw line. Smith also pulled down 10 rebounds to record a double-double and added five assists and four steals.

Smith’s 45 points beats her previous record of 42, set in a January of 2009 against Benedictine University. She also had a 40-point game in the 2009 season finale against Mount Mary College, a game which helped her set the single-season scoring record of 502 points.

Earlier this season, Smith became the first Concordia University Chicago women’s basketball player to reach 1,500 points in a college career.
