Thinking of barricading yourself inside to stave off the blizzard? Well a local business group has all the essentials you need to stave off the storm.
The Downtown Oak Park business association e-mailed a list this afternoon, breaking down all the survival goodies available in the village’s main shopping district. Here’s the text from the e-mail:
Downtown Oak Park Winter Survival Kit!
If you are old enough to remember the storm of ’67, you know that now is the time to stock up on provisions and survival gear. Downtown Oak Park is here to help. Below is a list of links and ideas to help you to prepare for the Blizzard of ’11.
Your first stop should be the local ATM at Community Bank of Oak Park River Forest or Chase Bank, both located on Lake St. (You’re going to need plenty of tip money for deliveries!)
Pizza, pasta, moo shu or sushi can be delivered by Mancini’s, Puree’s, Luo’s Peking House, or Sushi House.
If coming to the Lake Theatre is absolutely not an option, (alas!) you may be faced with a few hours in front of the boob tube. We suggest that you lay in a supply of the sublime Chicago Mix from Wells Street Popcorn to ease your pain.
A record snow storm presents a perfect opportunity to catch up on your reading. Go directly to The Book Table or Borders and check out their new arrivals.
A significant accumulation of snow may remind you of your “significant other” and the other loves of your life. Proceed to Fitzgerald’s Stationery and pick up some Valentines, or, if you are feeling especially creative, grab some supplies at Paper Source. With plenty of time on your hands, you’ll have no excuse not to make your own.
Speaking of Valentine’s Day, why wait for February 14th? Carpe diem! Luscious chocolates from Fannie May or a pot of perky daisies from Carriage Flowers will surely brighten even the snowiest of days. You will definitely need a treat after all the shoveling you’ll be doing. Don’t forget — you must keep your walks clean and ice free in Oak Park.
Have you been putting off that new pair of boots? Be sure to check out the selections at Competitive Foot and Shoe Soko. And don’t forget your pup’s paws. You’d better stop at Scratch n’ Sniff for booties and a warm winter coat for Fido.
Nothing quite compares to the beauty of Mother Nature, as illustrated by our lovely Oak Park covered in snow. Capture the moment in a timeless black and white photograph. You’d better dash into Holiday Camera for supplies. Who knows, you may catch the perfect shot for your next holiday greeting card.
If you ride Metra to work in the city, be warned that they are already predicting possible delays and service interruptions. If that is the case, why not make a detour to Prairie Bread Kitchen or Bleeding Heart Bakery for coffee and a muffin? Be sure to buy a few treats for your boss and co-workers. They may not even notice that you are late.
Cloudy skies are predicted for tomorrow in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. What happens if P. Phil gets snowed in? Don’t fret. Be sure to visit Trader Joe’s and pick up a case of Two Buck Chuck, a six-pack of microbrews and a selection of munchies. You just may be stuck in house until Super Bowl Sunday!
Stay safe and warm!
Your pals at Downtown Oak Park.
