The founders of Babble (a parenting website) recently announced that there are more taboos around parenting today than there are around sex. I agree and one of those taboos? Don’t tell anyone how lonely or isolated you feel as a parent.
When I had my first child, even though I worked part-time and experienced adult interaction, I was alone being a mom. I didn’t have any other friends to swap stories with or get advice from or laugh together over the craziness of raising kids. Gone were the days of moms staying at home and interacting with other moms on the block while their kids played in the neighborhood. I felt lost until someone threw me a lifeline by mentioning I could get support and friends and time away from my kids (precious me-time) right here in Oak Park!
Wonderful, marvelous, the-best-thing-that-ever-happened-to-me: Parenthesis
