The OPRF girls hockey team got its revenge on powerhouse New Trier by edging the Trevians 3-2 in a feisty match-up that yielded 11 penalties. The victory was OPRF’s first ever over New Trier, who the Huskies lost to 4-1 back in October.
Tatum Yancey, Josie Moreno, and Anne Gomolinski scored for the Huskies. Goalkeeper Tiffany Wallick racked up 30 saves.
“Beating New Trier was huge not only because it’s the first time we’ve beaten them, but because of the way we won,” said OPRF head coach Cary Shinsako. “New Trier tied the game at 2-2 and we didn’t fold, we never gave up and we fought hard for the game winner.”
Top performers for the Huskies include Jennifer Boniecki (23 points), Anne Gomolinski (22), and Rebecca Shinsako (10). Goalie Samantha Azuma is tied for second among league goalies with a 94-percent save percentage.
