Bids for the construction project at Lincoln School in Oak Park, which will add classroom space and a secured entrance, went out last Monday and are expected back by early February, officials from District 97 said.
The project at 1111 S. Grove, is expected to start later this spring. The renovation will address overcrowding due to increased enrollment in the full-day kindergarten program. Nearly 600 students are attending districtwide, according to the district’s most recent enrollment data for 2010. Classrooms will be added on the southeast side of the building, in addition to constructing a secured entrance and relocated main office. The total cost is approximately $1.3 million, paid for with federal stimulus funds the district received in the 2009-2010 school year.
Two classes are temporarily using mobile units for this school year, located in the school’s parking lot.
The district expects to receive bid responses by Feb. 9. The school board will receive an update on the project at their Feb. 22 meeting. Construction is expected to last through the summer and finish by the time classes resume next fall.
