John Sutton

John H. Sutton, 72, of Elmwood Park, formerly of River Forest, died at home on Jan. 4, 2011. Born in Roanoke,Va., on May 29, 1938 to Howard and Emma Sutton, he grew up in Washington, D.C., moving to the Chicago area in the late 1970s. For several years, Mr. Sutton owned Sutton & Associates, a marketing firm in River Forest. An avid golfer, passionate hockey fan and enthusiastic supporter of all of his children’s activities, he was also a devoted, longtime member of St. Luke Parish in River Forest.

After being diagnosed with brain cancer in early 2008 and told he had a year or less to live, his strength, courage and determination in meeting the challenges of the disease were instrumental in his surviving over 2½ years.

John Sutton is survived by Susanne (nee Prichard), his wife of 29 years; his children, John Jr., Christine (Steve) Buckley, Charles (Lynn), Jennifer (Jeff) Granvold, Michael (Megan O’Neil Sutton), Jason (fiancée Michelle Kaplan) and Kevin Sutton; his grandchildren, Timothy (Lisa) and Karissa Sutton, Jessica, Nicholas and Daniel Buckley, Katelyn and David Granvold and Charlie and Samantha Sutton; his great-granddaughter, Keelin Sutton; his brother, Stanley (Loretta); his sister-in-law, Mary Lou Prichard; several nieces and nephews, and many treasured friends.

Visitation was held on Jan. 7 at Drechsler, Brown and Williams Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Jan. 8 at St. Luke Church by Rev. Kenneth Fischer and Rev. Paul Reicher, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
