Isn’t it incredible the depth of love we have for our children? Motivated by this extraordinary emotion, we navigate the mundane, nitty-gritty parts of parenting from making meals, to car-pooling, helping with homework, wiping tears, and then waking up to do it all over again. Day after day, week after week, year after year, we march on. . . loving our children and guiding them as best we can.
At times, we become so absorbed in the guiding part of parenting that we forget about the loving part. But, oh, that loving part – how sweet and perfect and exquisite it is. Our love allows us to listen to our children’s opinions and perspectives even when we don’t agree. Love plants the kiss on their heads and the warm hug around their shoulders even when they pull away. It helps us make tough choices and feel good in the face of our children’s unhappy responses to those decisions. And, that magnificent, marvelous, glorious love is found deep in our hearts where we safeguard our unspoken hopes, dreams, and wishes for our children. . . those very dreams that propel us forward to navigate the mundane, nitty-gritty parts of parenting.
What are your wishes and dreams and hopes for your children? What moves you and inspires you to parent day after day? Let’s give voice to those desires so we can consciously parent from our love . . . guiding our children through the days and weeks and years to come.
Hoping all your parenting dreams come true this holiday season!
