First-round interviews have concluded in the search to replace former OPRF football coach Jim Nudera, according to John Stelzer, the athletics director for the high school. Stelzer said the list of candidates has been narrowed down to four.

“We will be inviting four individuals back after the winter break for second-round interviews, and we hope to have it all concluded and finalized by the end of January, if not before,” he said.

Stelzer would not elaborate on any of the four candidates, but sources have said all four are from outside the school, not current coaches or teachers at OPRF.

After 12 years as head coach and a record of 41-69, Nudera resigned back in early November citing the need to explore other opportunities and to spend more time with his family.

Tim Hasso, last season’s defensive coordinator and Nudera’s brother-in-law, did not interview for the position. Hasso is also the school’s head boys track and field coach.

The chosen candidate will become OPRF’s 19th head football coach in the school’s history.
