A man whom police have been monitoring since a July armed robbery at 7-Eleven, 661 South Blvd., in Oak Park was arrested last week. Dijon Edwards of Chicago, 19, was arrested by Oak Park police outside Cook County Jail at 26th Street and California Avenue in Chicago. Though Edwards had been suspected by Oak Park police of the robbery last July, he had been in and out of various prisons around the state on other charges since that incident, and this was their first opportunity to arrest him.
A Chicago boy was arrested for retail theft, the afternoon of Dec. 7, at Dominick’s, 259 Lake in Oak Park. He allegedly stole a carton of chocolate milk valued at $1.69.
Luis A. Santiago of Chicago, 40, was arrested for retail theft, the afternoon of Dec. 8, at Dominick’s, 259 Lake in Oak Park. He allegedly took meat from the meat cooler, valued at $18.
Lashon A. Hoskins of Chicago, 30, was arrested for retail theft, the afternoon of Dec. 10, at Dominick’s, 259 Lake in Oak Park. She allegedly took $14 worth of batteries.
Benito Figueroa of Chicago, 37, was arrested for felony retail theft, the afternoon of Dec. 11, from Dominick’s, 259 Lake in Oak Park. He allegedly took eight canisters of coffee and two loaves of white bread.
Jack Giambrone of Elmwood Park, 53, was arrested for retail theft, early on the morning of Dec. 7, at CVS Pharmacy, 7929 North Ave. in River Forest. He allegedly took 15 plastic containers.
Someone broke into a locker, the afternoon of Nov. 29, at Fitness Formula Club, 1114 Lake in Oak Park, and stole a man’s wallet and cell phone.
Roy F. Schaffer, 42, a homeless man whose last address was on Chicago’s South Side, was arrested for theft, the morning of Dec. 8, at the Oak Park Public Library, 834 Lake in Oak Park. He allegedly took a man’s Nike backpack and its contents, the evening of Dec. 2, while the victim showered in the men’s locker room at Dominican University, 7900 Division in River Forest.
Someone entered a bank-owned home on the 1300 block of North Austin Boulevard in Oak Park using a key and stole numerous copper pipes, valued at $7,000, sometime between Nov. 24 and Dec. 9.
A silver and black Apple iPhone and a brown Burberry wallet containing IDs was stolen, the afternoon of Dec. 10, from a gym locker at OPRF High School, 201 N. Scoville Ave. in Oak Park.
A woman’s wallet was stolen as she sat on a bench mid-day on Dec. 10 outside Jewel, 7525 Lake in River Forest. Her wallet was later found in the parking lot, but it was missing $250 in cash.
Someone broke into an apartment on the 100 block of North Austin Boulevard in Oak Park, the afternoon of Dec. 8, and stole two TVs and an Apple iPod Touch.
Someone broke into a home on the 1100 block of North Russell Avenue in Oak Park, the morning of Dec. 9, by breaking a window on the side of the home and reaching through to unlock the door. Once inside, the offenders stole jewelry and electronics, including a 32-inch Sony Bravia HDTV.
A home on the 500 block of South Scoville Avenue in Oak Park was broken into, the morning of Dec. 10, by breaking a window on the home’s back door and reaching through to open it. Once inside, TVs, computers, an mp3 player and jewelry were stolen. The loss was estimated at $4,230.
Someone broke into a garage on the 400 block of South Euclid Avenue in Oak Park via an unlocked side door, the night of Dec. 11, and stole a car’s battery.
Someone broke into a 2005 Kia parked on the 300 block of South Clinton Avenue, overnight between Dec. 10 and 11, stealing a key to the victim’s wife’s car — a 2002 Honda Accord. Her car was then stolen from where it was parked across the street on Clinton.
Brian E. Schnackel of Aurora, 30, was stopped and arrested for DUI and possession of a controlled substance, the morning of Dec. 9, on the 600 block of South Maple Avenue in Oak Park.
Donald A. Jaskolka of Elmwood Park, 55, was arrested for a DUI warrant out of River Grove, the morning of Dec. 8, at Dominick’s, 7501 North Ave. in River Forest.
James Ramos of Chicago, 23, was arrested for aggravated DUI near the intersection of Bonnie Brae Place and North Avenue in River Forest, early the morning of Dec. 9.
A 35- to 40-year old man approached a victim from behind with a sharp object, the night of Dec. 9, on the 400 block of North Austin Boulevard in Oak Park, and demanded money. When the victim pushed away from the man, he sliced the victim’s jacket, cutting open a pocket. The offender then ran away.
A 16-year-old Chicago boy was arrested on the 900 block of Lake Street in Oak Park, the morning of Dec. 12, for a robbery that happened on the 1000 block of Lake. The boy approached a woman from behind and took her purse after a struggle. Police responded to the area about six minutes later, where witnesses had grabbed and restrained the boy while waiting for police.
Levonta W. Nesbitt of Chicago, 17, and a Chicago boy were arrested on two counts of aggravated robbery, the night of Dec. 11, on the 400 block of North Austin Boulevard in Oak Park, along with Darius D. Walker of Chicago who was arrested on one count of aggravated robbery.
The three allegedly approached a victim on that block of Austin, pointed a handgun at him and demanded money — receiving a cell phone and a wallet. About 10 minutes later, the police responded and arrested the three. A BB gun was recovered from the offenders, according to police.
Criminal damage to property
Toby L. Hellmers of Oak Park, 47, was arrested for criminal damage to property, the morning of Dec. 10, at Oak Park Village Hall, 123 Madison. He allegedly damaged an aluminum gate on a parking structure by driving into it.
A stained glass window and a marble baptismal were broken, overnight between Dec. 10 and Dec. 11, at Grace Episcopal Church, 974 Lake, in Oak Park, when someone threw a brick through the window. The damage was estimated at $3,300.
Alisha D. Nichols of Maywood, 20, was arrested for battery, the night of Dec. 10, on the 900 block of Madison Street in River Forest. She was allegedly involved in an argument with a Bellwood man that escalated into a physical fight and she hit him in the face.
James Houston of Chicago, 53, was arrested for criminal trespass and disorderly conduct, the morning of Dec. 8, at First Presbyterian Church of River Forest, 7551 Quick in River Forest. He allegedly was asked to leave but pushed his way past church officials to use the bathroom.
