According to a story in last week’s paper (D97 Improves Faculty,Staff Diversity p.9), only one 97 teacher out of 472 teachers is retiring at the end of this school year. Amazing. Name any business that employs 472 people and only one retires. NFL? I’m sure someone besides Farve is retiring. The older teachers sure must love their jobs.

Now to be sure 40 District 97 teachers retired last year, and that would have been an interesting story. I’m sure that it was because of some fantastic incentive provided by the State or the Distict. Someone should have costed that out for us.

The fact that only one person is retiring may suggest that teacher satisfaction is pretty high. I would like to know how many  total teachers are not coming backof their own volition.  That would be even a better indication.

I’m guessing that District 97 teachers are pretty happy with their pay, and that is why the Board is asking for a pay freeze to help close its stuctural deficit. The teachers response will be interesting.
