Dudes Makin' a Difference has sponsored 11 children (ages 7 to 14) to attend school, buy school supplies and uniforms.

Have you heard about the OPRFHS Dudes? Dudes Makin’ a Difference is a boys service club that started in 2004 at Oak Park-River Forest High School. They help with local service projects, but their focus is raising money for children in Nepal. The club has sponsored 11 children (ages 7 to 14) to attend school, buy school supplies and uniforms. Educating one child costs $500 to $1200 annually, depending on the child’s age, and whether he/she must board at school since many villages are several days journey from a school.

Last fall, I donated items and went to their Sports Equipment sale. I was thrilled to find those “must needed” items at a discount for the various sports my kids are interested in — but I’m not sure if I want to invest big bucks for a “short-lived” sport.

Right now, Dudes Makin’ a Difference is having a holiday plant sale — fresh poinsettias and wreaths! They’ll also have handmade Sherpa hats from Nepal in all sizes and colors. Don’t miss this opportunity to decorate your home and help kids in need at the same time. They’ll even deliver — how easy is that! You can still order or find out more about this club at dudesmakinadifference@gmail.com.
