Blazers scorch Resurrection

The Trinity basketball team won its fourth game in a row by handing Resurrection a 58-38 loss in the Girls Catholic Athletic Conference Red Division opener last week.

Megan Podkowa led Trinity (7-1, 1-0) with 16 points, 13 coming in the second half. She also finished with five rebounds and two steals, while Grace Sanchez contributed 10 points and seven rebounds in the win.

Earlier in the week, Podkowa scored 21 to lead Trinity to a 75-39 mauling of T.F. North.

OPRF girls basketball

The Huskies opened West Suburban (Silver) Conference play two losses last week. OPRF fell 49-43 to Glenbard West on Saturday and 43-34 to York earlier in the week.

Stekara Hall led the Huskies in both losses, scoring 17 against Glenbard West and 12 against York.

OPRF (2-7, 0-2) struggled from the free-throw line against the Hilltoppers, connecting on just 11 of 21, while Glenbard West made 20 of 26.

OPRF head coach Bob Biggins called the York contest, “… a game of epic mediocrity.” His Huskies failed to score a point until the second quarter.

OPRF will try to regroup when it hosts Downers Grove North on Friday (7:30 p.m.).

Fenwick wrestling

Matt Garelli and Steve Sreniawski won their respective weight divisions at the Hinsdale South Invitational on Saturday.

Garelli won at 103 pounds, while Sreniawski took first at 285.

The Friars finished fifth (136) as a team, while Proviso West won the invite with 225 points.
