Move over teen substance abuse. . .we have a winner!!!!  It’s artificial turf – hands down.  The third and fourth Park District meetings addressing the future of LIndberg Park drew packed, engaged crowds of over hundreds of concerned citizens voicing their opinions on the pros and cons of artificial turf, lights and community vegetable gardens.  The second Parent Community Cafe addressing our children’s use of alcohol and drugs drew a slighter more intimate, but equally engaged group of approximately 40 concerned parents.

And, there’s more good news!  We have another opportunity to create the same public interest that artificial turf generated!  Let’s pack the River Forest Community Center on Wednesday, December 8th from 7 – 9 pm so we can come together and: learn what other communities are doing to keep drugs out of their schools, share our opinions about whether a drug-free school is possible or even desirable for Oak Park River Forest, and discuss topics such as:

  • Closed campus
  • Drug testing
  • Drug-detection dogs

Let’s start listening, talking, and learning at the next Community Cafe on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 from 7 – 9 pm at River Forest Community Center, 8020 Madison St., River Forest.  Remember, this just isn’t a conversation for parents of high school students, but for all persons interested in important topics like artificial turf. . . and drug-free schools!
