Six years after the two Fannie May candy stores in Oak Park shut down, the retailer returned to the village last week.

The retailer held a grand opening for its new Oak Park store at 1020 Lake St. on Nov. 11 with a ribbon cutting. The new store will offer assorted boxes of candy, nuts, gummy bears, and ice cream with bits of their candies mixed in, a company official told Wednesday Journal in August.

The two Oak Park stores were shuttered in 2003 and 2004 after Fannie May’s parent company filed for bankruptcy. Alpine Confections won the rights to its intellectual properties shortly after, and has since reopened 48 old locations and built 32 new ones.
