A Maywood boy who allegedly snatched an elderly woman’s purse off her shoulder Tuesday afternoon in River Forest has been arrested.

The 17-year-old boy grabbed the woman’s purse off her shoulder as she was walking out of the River Forest branch of Community Bank at 7777 Lake St. at 1:50 p.m. on Nov. 9.

The boy was arrested for an armed robbery in Bellwood later that same day, and River Forest police picked him up from the Bellwood police station. The boy was picked out of a lineup by the victim.

He’s been charged with felony robbery, since his victim was older than 60 years old.

Though he has been charged as an adult, Wednesday Journal is not publishing the boy’s name because he is a minor. His accomplice, a 15-year-old boy, was also taken into custody, but not charged because of his age.
