I wanted to provide my readers with an update on my recent blog about Art Loop Open. Check out this posting on the winners from TimeOut Chicago. Unfortunately, none of our local artists were among the winners (top artist earned $25,000 — see photo at right!). 

 

It was the first year for the event, and some of the voting kinks need to be worked out. I admit my innner conspiracy theorist wonders whether the voting process really identified the most popular works, or simply recognized the most self-promoting, connected, and/or optimally located artist? OK, well, when the public votes (versus having a professional jury), I guess that’s the reality, eh? All that said, I don’t dislike the winning piece (how’s that for faint praise?).
