The Fenwick football team fell 35-26 to Prairie Ridge in the first round of the Class 6A State playoffs in Crystal Lake on Saturday.

The Friars (5-5), who scored on their first play with a 69-yard touchdown pass from Pat Hart to Quinn Murphy, battled the No. 4 seed Wolves throughout the game, trailing by just two at halftime and in the closing minutes of the third quarter.

Hart, who scored from a yard out in the second quarter, struck again late in the stanza on a five-yard touchdown run to pull the Friars to within 21-19 by halftime.

A 50-yard touchdown pass from Hart to Murphy in the closing seconds of the third put the score at 28-26, Prairie Ridge.

With a little over nine minutes left in the game, Prairie Ridge’s Stephen Covalt scored from a yard out. An interception by the Wolves stalled an 80-yard drive in the fourth for the Friars.
