A record-breaking 333-yard rushing effort by Concordia University Chicago running back Khyree Copeland propelled the Cougars past Lakeland College 48-7 on Saturday.
Copeland broke his own school record of 221 yards set last November in a game at Aurora University. The senior had reached 140 yards in the first half as Concordia built a 21-7 lead. He rushed for 68 yards on the first three plays of the second half, the final run going for 39 yards and his first touchdown.
Copeland’s total stood at 238 yards early in the fourth quarter when he broke loose for a 95-yard touchdown run. The run not only finished his record-breaking day but also raised his season total to 1,100 yards. The touchdown was his 12th rushing of the year, breaking his record from both the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
The Cougars are currently 5-2 overall, 3-1 (second place) in the Northern Athletics Conference.
