After unseasonably warm weather Monday the Oak Park area is bracing for the possibility of severe wind storms Tuesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for the Chicago area starting Tuesday at 7 a.m. and ending at 8 p.m. The warning predicts sustained winds of 30 to 40 mph and gusts that could reach 60 mph.

Tips from the village

The Village of Oak Park sent out an e-mail alert Monday afternoon with these tips.

  • Call 911 immediately if you see downed trees or power lines
  • Secure any outdoor belongings
  • Clear sewer drains in front of your house in case of heavy rains
