The OPRF soccer team defeated Downers Grove South 2-1 to win the Oak Park Regional Championship on Friday.

With just under nine minutes left in the game, Mike Bower broke a 1-1 tie with an unassisted goal that ended up the game winner for the Huskies (14-4-3).

Elias El Metennani scored OPRF’s first goal.

The Huskies advance to take on second-ranked Morton in the Argo Sectional semifinals on Tuesday.

The OPRF football team’s season came to an end on Friday night without a win in the West Suburban (Silver) Conference as the Huskies fell 56-20 to Downers Grove North.

The game was a battle of the winless, as both the Trojans and the Huskies had yet to garner a conference victory this season. OPRF had a hard time stopping running back Frederick Palma, who rushed for 206 yards and six touchdowns, including four in the second half.

OPRF running back Tony Stapleton finished with 153 yards rushing and two touchdowns (21 yards, 70 yards).

The Huskies finish the season with a conference mark of 0-6 and an overall record of 2-7.
