Oak Parkers played a key role in keeping athletes hydrated at this year’s Chicago Marathon that drew over 38,000 runners.

Members of the Oak Park Runners Club operated a water stop at mile 18 on Taylor St. in Little Italy. George Balch and Bob Hakes helped keep runners supplied with water, while veteran marathoners Elliott Abarbanel and Bob Bell passed along words of encouragement to passing runners.

At mile-marker 21 on Archer, Bryan Cleal had a large group of Fenwick Friars helping runners hydrate, and at the finish line a group from the Huskie Athletic Counsel at OPRF was doing the same.
