The OPRF football team will have to wait another week to try to get that elusive victory in the West Suburban Silver Division Conference.

The Huskies dropped to 0-5 in the tough conference after falling to Proviso West 28-14 on Friday night in their final home game of the 2010 season.

The Panthers jumped on the board early with a 40-yard touchdown run by Julius Johnson (18 carries, 116 yards). Jamal Payton’s 18-yard touchdown scamper put Proviso West up 13-0 in the second quarter.

OPRF running back Tony Stapleton (23 carries, 91 yards) scored the first of his two touchdowns from a yard out with 37 seconds left in the opening half. The senior scored again from a yard out with seven seconds left in the third.

But Proviso West scored two touchdowns and held the Huskies scoreless in the final quarter to close out the victory. Quarterback Malik Thurman tossed a 62-yard touchdown pass to Rasheen Lemon and a 24-yard TD pass to Ryan Woods.

OPRF travels to Downers Grove North on Friday (7:30 p.m.) for its final game of the season. The Trojans are also currently winless in conference action this season.
