A River Forest woman was arrested Thursday for lying to police last Monday, allegedly telling them that a group of four black teens with a gun had punched her and kicked her dog.
Darlene Goebel, 46, of 1100 N. Harlem Ave. in River Forest was charged with a felony count of disorderly conduct for filing a false police report.
River Forest Police Detective Sgt. Marty Grill said Goebel had allegedly been frustrated with noise in the neighborhood, which caused her to file the report.
Police Sgt. Mike Thornley said the department did a thorough investigation into Goebel’s report, as a matter of course, gathering evidence and examining the scene.
“Every report, we have to treat as if it’s real,” Thornley said. “After our investigation, some inconsistencies were revealed.”
Police arrested Goebel Thursday when she came into the station for an interview with detectives.
