OPRF soccer coach Paul Wright confirmed today that starting goalkeeper Sam Euler will not play in Friday night’s showdown against cross-town rival Fenwick at Oak Park Stadium (7 p.m.) and the senior may be out for the remainder of the season.
Euler, who helped the Chicago Fire Academy Juniors win a national championship last season, has not played in OPRF’s last two games due to illness. Wright said the 6-foot, 160-pound goalkeeper has mononucleosis and is likely to miss the remainder of the season.
“It’s a huge blow for us [because] he’s our leader and organizer in the back,” said Wright of Euler. “Our backup Tracy Davis has stepped up. Once we get through Fenwick on Friday we will be evaluating a few other lower level keepers.”
After downing Proviso West 3-1 on Tuesday, the Huskies enter Friday’s game with a record of 10-2-2. As of this posting, Fenwick held an overall record of 8-5-1.
