Oak Parker Tim Kelly and River Forester George Wendt (not Norm!) braved a 62-degree water temperature and 2-foot swells to participate in the 2010 Big Shoulders Lake Swim off of Olive Park in Chicago.
Kelly and Wendt have participated in the 2.5K and/or 5K Lake Michigan event, which in year’s past has drawn 800 swimmers, for 20 consecutive years. The two are members of the Chicago Masters Swim Team and train at the University of Illinois-Chicago Natatorium. The race is a fundraiser for the UIC swim programs.
“Some, like myself, use [the event] as a training goal,” said Kelly. “Sometimes it’s effective, sometimes – oh well.”
