Dear fellow Oak Park resident,

Are you interested in serving as a Village of Oak Park trustee?

I am pleased to announce that the Village Manager Association (VMA) is now in the process of actively recruiting trustee candidates for the next village election in the spring of 2011. I am the chairman of the VMA committee that has the important task of finding outstanding candidates who will make excellent trustees.

We are looking for those candidates who have a progressive, hardworking attitude and the skills, background, character and desire to effect change in our community. It is our experience that, while the job of trustee can be difficult at times, it is very rewarding.

While it is tempting to ignore local elections in favor of family or work issues, it is clear that, if you are chosen as a trustee candidate for the VMA, you can immediately and directly have a voice in the local issues that affect you and those you care about. In the last two village elections, the VMA-endorsed slates of candidates have received the overwhelming support of the people of Oak Park. Since 1953, the VMA has historically been very successful in fielding a winning slate of candidates. The VMA will continue to build on that progress, but we need you to get involved.

If you want to be part of a group that can work together for accountable, responsive and fiscally responsible government, I urge you to contact us. Applicants for trustee will be interviewed by a volunteer group of citizens later this fall. These citizens will then choose the best qualified candidates to receive the VMA endorsement for the next election. Once elected, our candidates listen and learn from members of the community and make informed decisions for the benefit of all Oak Park.

If you would like to learn more about the VMA selection process, or recommend someone as a trustee candidate, please go to our website at vma-oakpark.org. You can also call me at 708-927-5565 or e-mail me at selections@vma-oakpark.org.

We are also having a Trustee Selections Committee Kick-off at the Marion Street Cheese Market on Tuesday, Sept. 14, from 7 to 9 p.m.

I look forward to receiving your application for trustee or to serve on the citizen committee that will recommend a VMA candidate’s endorsement or seeing you at our Trustee Selections Committee Kick-off on Sept. 14.
