And speaking of local indie filmmakers, Ron Lazzeretti’s film, Something Better Somewhere Else recently got a nice boost when Sun-Times film guru Roger Ebert gave it a rave review [Four tales of moving on and hopefully up, July 16, 2010]. “In a world of bloated and dumbed-down entertainment,” Ebert wrote, “here’s a movie with the quickness and acute observation of a good short story. … What I kept noticing was the excellence in details: the acting, the casting, the dialogue, editing, music and meticulous camera placement. The feeling that not a shot was careless. The film knows what it’s doing.”
Wednesday Journal profiled Lazzeretti and his producer Ed Amaya (also an Oak Parker) on May 19 when their film was first screened at the Siskel Film Center. Their website is www.59films.com.
