Oak Park police arrested a man last week who was on parole for murder, after they pulled him over during a traffic stop.

Damien A. Morris of Chicago, 29, was stopped and taken into custody just after midnight Tuesday, Aug. 31 on the 1000 block of Mayfield in Chicago.

He had an active warrant for parole violation; Oak Park police were not immediately sure how Morris had violated his parole.

According to the Illinois Department of Corrections, Morris was arrested on Jan. 1, 1998 for murder and armed robbery, and he began a 35-year sentence for the two charges in Sept. 2000.

Morris was paroled in April 2008, after serving less than eight years of his sentence.
