A burgeoning row of businesses in south Oak Park is about to add a trendy coffee shop to its mix.

Oak Parker Deza Pascual has watched the growing hipness of the Southtown business district, at Oak Park Avenue and the expressway, which has recently added a sushi house and a pub. But she felt the area was in dire need of a coffee shop like you’d find in the city, for neighbors to hang out and sip a cup of Joe.

“Coming from the city all the time, we don’t have something like that in this neighborhood,” she said.

So on Aug. 28, Pascual opened Yova Gourmet Coffee and Treats, located at 818 S. Oak Park Ave. The small coffee shop will offer frozen yogurt, smoothies and pastries, along with free wireless internet for customers.

Pascual, 31, works full time doing marketing for a general contractor, is a native of Galewood, and graduated from St. Giles and Fenwick in Oak Park. She’s running the business with the help of her brother, sister and parents. She’s open to suggestions and has set up a website at yovashop.com.

“Our main goal is to really bring a city feel of a coffee shop into Oak Park,” she said.
