River Forest’s fire insurance rating has improved, according to Fire Chief Jim Eggert, a development that could mean cheaper insurance rates for residents.

The new rating – class 3, as opposed to the village’s previous class 5 – puts the village in the top five percent of fire departments in the nation.

Eggert touted significant improvements in the department’s training as the reason for the upgrade, as well as new equipment, staffing changes, and improved fire-response time.

River Foresters should get in touch with their insurance carriers to let them know about the village’s new rating, Eggert said – commercial and residential insurance rate premiums could drop as a result.
