With the ongoing forums this spring and early summer concerning substance abuse among students at Oak Park and River Forest High School, one topic among parents has been the status of the school’s on-campus substance abuse counselor.
Margo Bristow has held the job for six years; she also works with four resource managers. The high school renews the services for Bristow and the resources managers each year through Thrive Counseling Center in Oak Park. In May, the high school approved the agency’s contract of roughly $300,000, which covers salary and benefits for the counselor and resource managers. Some parents have advocated for the school to hire Bristow on staff, as well as adding more drug counselors.
