The Lake Theatre in Oak Park is running a free screening of a transportation-related documentary Saturday called Blueprint America: Beyond the Motor City. Oak Park officials believe the film offers lessons, as Oak Park and the surrounding communities seek input into the future of the Eisenhower Expressway in coming years.

The 90-minute film originally aired on PBS in February. The documentary looks at the past and future of transportation, according to a village press release, focusing on the city of Detroit. It talks about bringing back the city’s public transit system, which disappeared with the popularity of the automobile.

At issue locally will be a decision driven by the Illinois Department of Transportation on whether to add lanes to the Ike or extend the Blue Line farther west.

The film will show at 10 a.m. June 5 at the Lake, 1020 Lake. A trailer can be viewed at: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/blueprintamerica/reports/on-the-road/preview/1001.
