Visitors to downtown Chicago next month may have to blink a few times to believe what they’re looking at…and what’s looking right back at them.
Thanks to Oak Park resident and artist Tony Tasset, Chicagoans will be greeted by his sculpture called “Eye.” And that’s exactly what it is, 30-foot-tall sculpture of an eye ball. It’ll be displayed from July through October at Chicago’s Pritzker Park at State Street and Van Buren. The unveiling is scheduled for July 7. Tasset’s other downtown artwork called “Cardinal” will also be revealed. The 156 street banners will display Illinois’s state bird, the red cardinal, in flight on lamp posts from Congress Parkway to Wacker Drive. The works are part of the city’s inaugural Art Loop 2010, showcasing Chicago-area artists.
