The OPRF baseball team won two games against Proviso East in West Suburban Conference crossover action recently, which should prepare the Huskies for a more meaningful showdown against Silver Division foes Hinsdale Central this week.

OPRF (22-8) clobbered the Pirates in the opener of the series 10-0 in five innings. Emmett Boblick yielded a mere hit, while striking out three in four innings of work. Kevin Schwartz pitched the fifth inning, also allowing just one hit.

Armand Gordon went 3-for-3 with three RBIs for the Huskies, who took Game 2 9-6. P.J. Brennan earned the win in that game, allowing four runs on six hits in four innings. He struck out four.

Frank Picchiotti finished with a double and two RBIs in Game 2, while Alex Jefferies drove in two on a single.

The Huskies jump back into the Silver Division title race with a doubleheader against Hinsdale Central on Saturday. OPRF hosts the Red Devils beginning at 10 a.m. The teams will close out the final conference series at Hinsdale Central on Tuesday. Winning all three games could give the Huskies at least a share of the conference title.

The Class 4A playoff seedings were announced last week and the Huskies were awarded the No. 3 spot in the St. Rita Sectional. St. Rita and Mt. Carmel fill the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds respectively.

OPRF begins the playoffs in the Argo Regional against either Bogan or Kelly on May 24. The regional title game is scheduled for May 29 (11 a.m.).

“I was a little surprised that we are heading to the Argo Regional because in year’s past if Fenwick hosted a regional, we were sent there,” said OPRF head coach Chris Ledbetter. Fenwick is the seventh seed in the sectional.
