Former weekend anchor Kevin Roy was fired, April 26, by WLS-Channel 7 when he failed to show up for work for the third time in the last few months, according to Robert Feder’s media blog (blogs.vocalo.org/feder).
In a post last Thursday, titled “Sad, strange ending to anchorman’s boyhood dream,” Feder noted that Roy, 41, was an Oak Park and River Forest High School alum and one-time star of the high school’s Newscene cable channel show.
“Since I’ve been in fourth grade,” Roy was quoted in his sophomore yearbook, “I remember telling my parents that I wanted to be an anchor person.”
He went on to co-anchor the top-rated weekend morning newscasts and also won awards as a general assignment reporter.
Roy said his absences were caused by “physical exhaustion.”
