The village board gave its approval Monday to a new market coming to downtown Oak Park. After jumping the final hurdle, the weekly summer block party is set to debut this coming June.

Oak Park has been exploring creating an outdoor market in its downtown for about four months, Loretta Daly, business services manager for the village, said in March. The new event will be held at the parking lot on the south side of Lake Street, just east of Harlem, for 14 consecutive Wednesday nights starting June 16 and ending Sept. 15.

The new market will be focused on food, according to village documents, but will also include local florists, soap makers and fabric artisans. The village also plans to have beer and wine available for purchase.

Oak Park is planning to have 30 to 36 booths for local vendors at the midweek market, which will run from 4 to 9 p.m.
