Two Oak Park and River Forest High School parent/community groups will host separate forums next month concerning drug activity at the school.

At its regular monthly meeting next Tuesday, May 4, APPLE (African-American Parents for Purposeful Leadership in Education) has invited Oak Park’s Police Chief Rick Tanksley to discuss the drug issue, as well as bullying and fighting topics. Also invited are Bert Patania, supervisor of the youth interventionist program of the Oak Park Township; and Dr. Derrick Johnson. The meeting takes place in the school’s faculty dinning room, 201 N. Scoville.

Also looking to spark community concern over drug use among students, the Citizen’s Council will host a Teen Alcohol and Substance Abuse forum from 7 to 9 p.m. May 19, in the auditorium. The panel-style format includes OPRF, police and Oak Park Township officials, followed by an audience Q&A.
