Oak Park’s Ten Thousand Villages doesn’t have 10,000 volunteers, but the fair trade store is kicking off volunteer week with a discount and window display honoring local volunteers.
National Volunteer Week runs April 20-24. The shop that thinks globally and sells locally, at 121 N. Marion, relies mostly on volunteers to operate its business. So the international retailer is setting up a display in its window, featuring pictures and information about volunteers in the Oak Park area.
Ten Thousand Villages will also celebrate volunteer week by giving anyone who volunteers a 25 percent discount on any one item, according to a press release. Customers can redeem the discount by telling the staff where they volunteer.
